I purchased this drive along with the Sabrent 2.5" drive enclosure explicitly to back up our 5 year old WD NAS drive. Installing the SSD in the enclosure was literally a snap. However when plugged into my laptop all the PC saw was the adapter but no drive. So I said to myself cynically, "Self, plug and play! Yeah right!". I checked the drive out in my Black Widow cradle - no response. Delving a little deeper I saw the drive wasn't initialized. I started to think that maybe I need to go to the Crucial support web page and see what I was overlooking. After reading the first paragraph I did the old palm to the forehead realizing that to get the drive functional I had to use the disk management tool. In Win10 open the start menu, scroll down to Windows System and select Computer Management and click on Disk Management. From there you can initialize and format the drive using the defaults. Took less than 10 minutes once I remembered what to do. After getting the drive mounted and formatted I did a quick file transfer test and transferred a whole directory from one external drive to the SSD in a blink of an eye. To say that I was impressed would be an understatement! I like the fact that the whole package has a small enough footprint to fit in a file folder after archiving the NAS drive. The price of the package really makes it a nice alternative to mechanical external drives.Over the last couple of years, my husband and I have gotten new computers that had an SSD for the main drive. We have been blown away by the speed of these SSDs. What a difference they make in booting and any activity that has much disk reading and writing (just about everything)! I had always thought it would be too expensive and difficult to upgrade our old computers, but it's inexpensive and easy. I have upgraded 5 old PCs (2008 to 2014) over the last couple of weeks, and they all run like new! Just clone that old hard disk c drive to the new SSD using free cloning software (I've used Macrium Reflect or AOMEI if source disk has bad sectors) and you're ready to go. Many videos on how to do it simply on youtube. Such a powerful upgrade for the investment!I bought for my sons ps4. I went ahead and got 2 thumb drives to backup files on one and to download the update software file from PlayStation support page. There’s alotOf YouTube Videos on this and it was reallySimple. Make sure you use the bottom link on the page so you don’t incur 34788 error when updating new sata ssd. Fired right up and works great. My son played it for hours and loved the better kid times and snappy menu movement. Really improves the ps4. Also I suggest deleting and games you can off hdd to lessen times to back up and space needed. I cleared all games and just left the game saves etc. did the backup and ssd install the just redownloaded the games. It’s just your preference. Hope this helps anyone upgrading the ps4.I installed this drive into my Thinkpad T400. Thanks to the modular design of that laptop, changing the old drive for the new one was very easy. It was probably the easiest drive swap I have ever done.Around the same time I changed the old HDD for this SSD, I also upgraded from 4gb of RAM to 6gb, then finally to 8gb. I also upgraded the existing T9600 processor to a T9900. I am serious when I say that this hard drive had the biggest impact on performance. All the other upgrades provided marginal benefit, but this drive really made that old laptop into a fast, usable machine. If you are upgrading a desktop or laptop, start with changing the HDD for an SSD and doing a fresh installation of your preferred operating system. The results my surprise you!Not all SSDs are created equal. I have purchased several Crucial BX500 drives over the years, and I was always happy with their low price and high performance. After purchasing this MX500, I don't think I can go back to the BX500s. The MX is only about $10 more, and in normal used I have noticed it is quite a bit faster. It is worth the extra cost to for faster real world performance. The drive comes in excellent packaging, having a plastic glove to encase the hard drive and keep it safe from bumps and bruises. The drive is simple to install, and functions very well within about any environment. I utilized this drive to upgrade the storage capacity in a Night Owl Security Camera system, after it's install, the system seemed to improve dramatically, not only within the flow of the user interface, but also within the quality of the files recorded. Playback became smoother, navigation through the user interface was smoother, and the overall quality of files recorded as well as live view quality improved dramatically. I highly recommend this drive to anyone thinking about upgrading really any device on the market today. Shipping was A++ the package arrived 3 days after I hit the purchase button. Would recommend to friends and or family. Thank you for the positive experience. This little SSD has held up very well for me. I got it because I was running my pc off of one hard drive and I wanted something to help boot my computer a lot faster. This product did the trick. It took down my start up time from minutes to seconds. I could really see the difference when it came to launching different software as well. One of the most annoying things was waiting for all my applications to boot up when I started my system. This SSD was so much faster and made a big difference in the time I had to wait while all my software that boot on start warmed up. I still use this SSD in my build to this day and have not had any issues with it. I am not the biggest computer expert, but if you just need a cheap SSD to help you start off your build this is a great option.
